Embodiment Coaching

What would it mean to live an Embodied Life?

Embodiment: a tangible or visible form of an idea, quality, or feeling.

Hi, I’m Melanie and I’m so glad you’re here! I offer somatically oriented inquiry and coaching for folx wanting to live a more embodied life- what I like to call Embodiment Coaching.

I truly believe we all do better when we all do better.

I am passionate about helping you to do better – to become more Embodied and move through your life with as much ease, pleasure and sovereignty as possible – whatever that looks like for you.

I believe we all have the right to live fully embodied lives.

We currently live in a world where there are structures in place that actively limit our access to Embodiment and profit off of our dis-empowerment and dissociation. This white supremacy, patriarchal, capitalist culture hurts us all.

I want to live in a different world. And I want you to join me.

Let’s work together to identify the systems that hold us back (white supremacy, ableism, patriarchy) and find the balance of naming those systems and assigning responsibility to those oppressions while also finding what our level of personal responsibility is. Let’s stop blaming ourselves and each other.

I do this work along side you in my own life.

Embodiment Coaching is guided by principles of Somatic Experiencing (https://traumahealing.org/se-101/) – working with the innate wisdom of our nervous system and expanding our capacity of how we are able to regulate ourselves. It is a deepening of our ‘felt sense’ – an inner knowing and awareness of your sensations and experiences; a bodily trust. We take this somatic work along with your emotional, intellectual and spiritual selves to create a more cohesive you – to become more fully embodied.

I take my unique blend of lived experiences as a fat, queer, cis woman who struggles with depression, anxiety and chronic pain; my work background of trauma informed mental health counseling and Somatic Experiencing (SE) plus my life long love of what I call ‘sacred irreverence’ – the ability to hold deep, grounded space and spiritual inquiry while also laughing at myself and with others knowing that often times the way through deep pain includes a good sense of humor.

I bring all this together and hold a safe(r)/brave space* where I offer compassionate challenging of old patterns and thoughts, fierce accountability.

*What do I mean when I say safe(r)/brave space? I don’t claim a safe space in the traditional sense – what feels safe to me might not feel safe to you. I believe the most powerful work we do together happens not within the confines of our comfort zone but just outside, what I like to think of as a curiosity zone, and before we reach a place of shutting down – our can’t zone. My goal is not to push so hard that you shut down but to be able to build capacity within yourself to expand into a brave space.

While I have a background in trauma-informed mental health counseling and that plays into the tools I have in my bag of tricks, Embodiment Coaching is separate from counseling. I have great respect for your story that has shaped you, but in our work together we are focusing less on processing what has happened and more on the present.

This can be hard work, it can also be pleasurable, exciting, invigorating and fun.
